New Treatment for Acute Brain Injury

Researchers at Clemson University in South Carolina have developed a gel, made partially of stem cells, that they are injecting into the brains of injured patients. People with combat wounds, car accident or gunshot wounds have been injected with the gel which has been shown to promote healing and limit the amount of secondary injury from the trauma. This is an exciting new method of reducing injury and improving outcome that has never been available before. The gel is expected to be ready for testing in humans in about three years.
