STORIES OF AMAZING RECOVERIES

Submitted By: Cathy Kemp

I was 21 years of age and manning an above ground DoD Nuclear Radiation Test Site Gate in Adelphi, MD when my non-ergonomic 1965 Government Secretarial Chair Gave Way causing me to strike my head on an oak shelf that was on the brick wall behind my admin bay.

My life changed forever following this DoD Traumatic Brain Injury. I held my first ever grand mal epileptic seizure that nite in my sleep and observed by others. My seizures were controlled for 12+ Years by medication and it took 1 year to affirm I was an Epileptic Medically, though I knew I was 12/5/84, the morning after my Traumatic Brain Injury.

I thank GOD for Dr. Samuel J. Potolicchio, head of neurology at GW Hospital because my seizures became petite and uncontrolled 11 years after injury and he and his Neuro Surgeon recontrolled my epilepsy. Dr. Raymond Caputy removed the 15% of damaged brain tissue that caused my epilepsy but had to remove my Left Short Term Memory to gain access to the damaged brain tissue, which has 100% Disabled me following 2002 Neuro Psychological Testing.

I supported a 2 Star Army General on the DoD Campus I suffered my Traumatic Brain I jury in MD and found him in 2003 as President of OAO Corp. in Greenbelt, MD. I stood in his doorway unannounced and reintroduced myself to him and shared my DoD Traumatic Brain Injury w/him and he asked me to "Stand up, look him straight in the eye and repeat after him ...I WILL NOT GIVE UP MY FIGHT FOR TRUE FEDERAL JUSTICE". And I stood up, Saluted him and promised him I would not give up my Fight for TRUE FEDERAL JUSTICE". It is that promise I made Lt. Gen. Paige that keeps me fighting for DoL Justice.

I got partial justice during recovery from Brain Surgery thanks to the support of my Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, in Howard County, MD. He met me down at DoL 2 days following my consult w/him over the phone and the Acting District 25 Director at Labor (now the National Director of OWCP) accepted my Injury Case, assigned me to a Sr. Case Worker and within a Year I had Partial Federal Justice within DoL May 19, 1999.

However, then the horrific Internal Federal Processing Error occurred and in July of 2002, I obtained a Full Case Denial of my DoD Injury Case because DoL Destroyed MY CASE FILES AND ALL CASE FILES ASSIGNED To My Sr. Case Worker, Ken Moxley prior to full electronic archival age within Labor and I continue to Fight 6+ years later for OVERDUE TRUE FEDERAL JUSTICE.

Traumatic Brain Injury is enough to suffer as Lt. Gen. Ememett Paige told me in 2003. He affirmed I deserved then a minimum of 300K federally for the Pain, Anguish and Suffering I've been thru w/my DoD Head Trauma Injury, but then told me it will take most likely 10 years to obtain Rejustice Federally.

My Traumatic Brain Injury case is in Reconsideration now within DoL and a decision will be forthcoming NLT 11/24/08 and I hope to obtain TRUE FEDERAL JUSTICE, w/ DoL paying for all Medical Coverage from Date of Injury to the present to include my Medicare/Supplemental coverage costs. And I deserve JUSTICE and Obtaining Justice will help my Stress Level which being "HIGH" can cause seizures in itself.

Be Strong Everybody, I am a Strong and Independent Woman, even w/my Epileptic Seizure Disorder!!!!!!
