Hello, my name is Jimmy Rogers and this past August I was in a car accident in which 3 people were killed and 7 injured. This past August 7, 2003 I was in a tragic car accident in which a friend of mine and an older couple in a van were killed when a transfer truck hit our car while we were traveling back to Lumberton N.C. from Busch gardens, Virginia. The truck driver told the State Troopers after the accident that he told his employers that his brakes were bad on his truck but they told him to drive anyway. And he did! Needless to say, he killed three people and injured seven others.

During the accident I received a traumatic head injury. I was rushed to the MCV (Medical College of Virginia) where a neurosurgeon performed a craniotomy to the right side of my skull. I now have an 8 inch scar on the right side of my head. I was in the hospital for three weeks and when I arrived home I started to remember things three weeks later. My hospital bills have totaled about $180,000.00. At the time I didn't have any medical insurance. I didn't have any because I had just got off active duty and all your medical care is free. I didn't even think that I would need medical insurance at the time.

To start with I have been a paratrooper in the U.S. Army for 12 years and I am now in the U.S. Army Reserves. I was in nursing school before the accident and haven't been able to go back because of my short term memory problems. At this time, I see an ear, throat doc, a psychiatrist, an orthopaedic doc, a speech pathologist, a urologist, a neurosurgeon, a neurologists and two medical doctors. At this time I take about 13 pills in the morning and another 6 when I go to bed.

I am doing a lot better now and I'm just glad to be alive. As I said I am writing to see if there is anyway to help out with this problem. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
